The story of Sodom and Gomorrah has been used as a metaphor to suggest homosexuality is deviant behavior. In the story, men of the city surround Lot’s home demanding he bring out the visitors who have arrived seeking shelter, so the crowd can rape them. The visitors are angels.
The angels in this story have not assumed physical forms, having been sent by God as messengers. The angels exhibit beautiful spiritual forms which drives the crowd to lustful desire.
In this example, Biblical interpretation has assume the angels have taken male form. This is wrong. The exceptional beauty exhibited by the angels would exhibit a feminine appearance. Therefore, the crowd is demanding sexual favors from what they believe are beautiful women.
The story of Sodom and Gomorrah has nothing to do with homosexuality. It would be more accurate to say it is a story of heterosexual desire. But, this is also wrong. The story of Sodom and Gomorrah is a admonishment against inhospitality.
Love and kindness toward others is a reoccurring theme that eventually is explained fully by Jesus Christ. Sexuality is not the sin derived from the Bible. As this story demonstrates, inhospitality and intolerance are sins of man. Homosexuals will enter the Gate of Heaven if they show charity and love in their hearts. Those who condemn others, showing dark hatred in their souls, they will burn in Hell.
